Reinstall HP Printer/Scanner Driver

Last change 22/02/2009

Hp Software is a pain to uninstall under Windows. Normally thats not a Problem, but when you have to reinstall everthing, it is.

My Problem

I have one of these HP All-In-One Machines (fax, scan, print) and am actually quite happy with it (I might add some scripts I wrote for scanning in the Linux section).

I use the HP AIO via the router directly on the network, so all my machines can connect to it. Now because of an unknown reason, I couldn't access the printer any more from my windows box. So I thought -  'No Problem, lets reinstall the driver' - boy, was I wrong there.

First I had to find the seoftware (hp_LJ3050-3052-3055-3390-3392_Full_Solution) - which in itself took quite some time. Then I reinstalled it - which didnt do anything. So I decided I uninstall the software and then do a normal install. Which did not work. I always kept getting errors close to the end of the HP Setup. Stuff like:

Error...

Now Launching=X:hpzwrp01.exe –m dpinstxml_vista –l XXX –f X:hpoins18.dat –Validate No dat –Validate No = Application did not return ERROR_SUCCESS. Returned 0x643 Exit code=1063

The Solution

I also posted it on the HP support Forum but here it is also on my page:

The problem is, that the software uninstall doesnt really work, so I had to do some extra work there.

I deleted all hp files I could find (there might be more!) namely:
hpgwiamd.dll
hpipxmui.hlp
HPPADT40.DLL
HPPAMON0.DLL
HPPAPML0.DLL
HPPAPTS0.DLL
[hppasc01_EBE033E16463F6EF09D374CC7001EE296F578906]
HPPASNM0.DLL
[hppcew01_822AC12FC31B86EE40F672E4949BFF941D027D3B]
[hppcp601_AB3DD7A7977C2081B2EFE67AF558DFDDE18E41E9]
[hpsj_0002]
hptcpmib.dll
hptcpmon.dll
hptcpmon.ini
hptcpmui.dll
hptcpmui.hlp
hpzc3212.dll
[hpzid414_96E140791F473BE81F5C7617726CDC740CFFC84A]
HPZidr12.dll
HPZinw12.exe
HPZipm12.exe
HPZipr12.dll
[hpzipr13_46F40A09802AEFED7E09F08193BA94BE914ADC76]
hpzipt12.dll
hpzisn12.dll
[hpzius13_A2CE9D2BCFB782472C86C186A71D16A8BB4557C4]
hpzjfw01.dll
hpzjsn01.dll

they are scattered in the windows/system32 folder (I just moved all of them in a folder on my desktop - just in case :P).

I then removed all HP stuff from my registry (open regedit and search for "Hewlett-Packard") it should come up in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Hewlett-Packard and a few other places. just delete them all

Then I rebooted and suddenly the installation didnt fail any more and everything worked fine.
